Log Homes Under 1,250′

These are our coziest log and timber homes in our stock plan section. Most of these homes are used for retirement, first homes, homes getting off of the grid, or even hunting cabins; and, we have built many for each of these situations.  If you see something you like, but not exactly what you are looking for, our design team can come up with a custom creation just for you.

The Chilhowee Mountain Retreat, owned by Jim and Mary Haider,  in Maryville, Tn, has been serving their bed and breakfast guests since their establishment in 2008.  They have earned a great reputation, and we sincerely thank them for letting us be a part of their journey.  If you have the time, take a look at their home.  Better yet, book a stay to get to know the Haider’s and the Smoky Mountains — and while you are there, take a look at our construction!  You won’t be disappointed.

*From our previous article:

Jim and Mary Haider first approached us with an idea about owning and running a log home Bed and Breakfast in Maryville, TN. After researching Bed and Breakfasts, they noticed none of the current businesses were log homes. Jim and Mary had been to numerous log home shows and eventually decided to partner with us.  We were excited that they did, and eager to get down to work designing and building one of our custom log homes to be their new bed and breakfast.

After a short amount of time, it became clear why the Bed and Breakfast industry didn’t have many log homes.  One of the requirements for this type of business is the use of fire sprinkler systems. At the time of the build, it wasn’t immediately obvious how this was to work with an exposed beam, heavy timber roof system on a 6×12 log home.  Another issue was the location of the home.  While mountain living is a very popular location for log home owners, the need for large amounts of pressurized water is typically not a concern of most well systems. This presented even more of a challenge, due to the use of several large, air driven, soaking tubs, a hot tub off of the master bedroom, steam showers in all of the master suites, and an industrial dishwasher with large demands for a fast moving water supply.(Read More Here)

Invitation to shared dropbox folder, what now?

PrintShared Dropbox Folder?

We wanted to take a quick moment and give a few paragraphs on using one of our services here at Custom Timber. We often deal with very large files for our communications, and sometimes that involves using a dropbox for business account. Wait! Don’t panic! You don’t have to install anything on your computer if you don’t want to. You can sign up for the free account and access it online only. Of course, you can also sign up for a free account and install for up to 2GB of free storage if you have the need.

The following is an excerpt from Take Control of Dropbox, by Joe Kissell. We recommend this $10 ebook to anyone looking to gain more info about the fantastic service dropbox has to offer. Or go ahead and Click Here to Buy Take Control of Dropbox

A short excerpt from Mr. Kissell’s book:

Someone Invited to a Shared Folder

If you’re just starting to use Dropbox because someone else invited you to join a shared folder, you may enjoy reading the entire book start to finish, but allow me to highlight some important concepts:

• First, although you must create a Dropbox account (which includes choosing a password), you don’t necessarily have to install the Dropbox software on your computer or mobile device. You can do everything you need to do within a Web browser, if that’s your preference. However, installing the software—especially the desktop software for a Mac or PC—will make it far easier for you to work with files in a shared folder. So, I suggest reading the next chapter (Sync Your Files), especially Set Up Dropbox on a Mac or PC, for guidance before doing anything else.

• Second, you may want to read the Share Files and Folders chapter— or at least the topics Invite Someone to a Dropbox Folder and Work with Shared Folders—to understand how shared folders work from the perspective of the folders’ owners. In any case, be on the lookout for a few interspersed tips that start with the words “Sharing Invitees,” which call out information that may be particularly useful to you.

We highly recommend checking out Mr. Kissell’s book, should you have the need to learn more about Dropbox. He also has a nice “cheat sheet” available for reference. dropbox cheat sheet
